Born on the Caribbean island of Antigua, D. Gisele Isaac attended the Christ the King High School, then emigrated to New York in 1984 to attend college. 

A graduate of St. Johnís University, Ms. Isaac holds a masterís degree in government and politics, with a concentration in international relations, and a bachelorís degree, summa cum laude, in journalism, with a concentration in English.

 Employed by her alma mater since 1989, she is managing editor of St. Johnís Today, the Universityís official publication, and teaches courses in African-American literature.

She is a passionate calypso fan; has written lyrics to several songs; and judged Carnival competitions in Antigua and the Sunshine Music Awards in New York City.  Ms. Isaac reads widely and writes commentaries, poetry and short stories. Considering Venus is her first novel.

She says of her work: ďWhile I believe my writing reflects my Caribbean heritage with its inherent prides and prejudices and my characters are predominantly black, I try to portray a sensibility that is, above all, female.Ē

She plans to return to Antigua soon and continue teaching.
